The Practice of Staying ♥️

21 years together.
14 years married.
Still here.

Me and Eddie♥️

This is one of my favourite photos of me and Eddie. It’s not the most glamorous or flattering, but it’s the story behind it that I love.

The photo was taken in Kuching, Malaysia, on what was supposed to be a romantic evening boat cruise.

Except there was a storm.

Plastic chairs were flying off the boat. We couldn’t even sit outside, so we took this selfie instead — cheek to cheek, smirking at the ridiculousness of it all.

And somehow, that feels like a pretty good metaphor for 21 years together.

Sometimes life is chaotic.
Sometimes things don’t go according to plan.
Sometimes the romantic cruise involves flying plastic chairs. 😂

And sometimes the best thing you can do is look at each other and think: Well. This is hilarious.

Today is our 14th wedding anniversary.

We’ve changed. Life has changed. Our relationship has changed.

Maybe staying isn’t about holding on to the thing you started with.

Maybe it’s about continuing to choose the person and the relationship as they change — and allowing yourself to change too.

Because after 21 years, we aren’t choosing the same relationship we had 21 years ago.

We’re choosing the relationship that exists now.

Staying together isn’t standing still.

It’s continuing to meet each other as we are, rather than expecting either of us to remain who we were.

What if staying isn’t about holding on, but about continuing to choose?

♥️
